My Last Blog – Captain’s Report for 2017 from Tess Mann

Our Team ….. 2017 was a year I will never forget!! What a team, I definitely had the best bunch of lads; the team just picked itself. The squad’s attitude and team spirit coupled with their commitment earned a massive respect from everyone in the Hadrian League, but especially from me. Cheers guys. I don’t need to name them as they know who they are, but a special thank you to my Vice Captain Chris Bowman, and I wish you all the best to you and the team this year. One thing I must say is that I won’t forget our 12-0 win. I skipped up the road afterwards!!

Captain’s Day ….. Captains Day was a great day and thank you to all the members for turning up. We raised £850 for charity thanks to our sponsors and members. My wife and I went to Smyths toy shop and spent about £900 on computers, toys, games, books, pens etc. for the Children’s Ward 14 at the RVI. It was a very emotional day for everyone at the hospital and they were over the moon with the gifts. Huge thanks go to everyone involved in making these gifts possible.

Thank You ….. I would like to thank Kenny Shepherd, Brian Rutherford, Bryan Malone and Graham Bell for helping me with the league games when I was unable to get there. Special thanks to Geoff Brown and Brian King for their support through the year. Can I also say congratulations to Christine Nicholson in the Ladies Section for raising £1500 for ‘Daft as a Brush’. Good luck to Candy Brown for the captaincy of the Northumberland Ladies County. And good luck to the Parklands Ladies Captain, Sarah Howson, for the 2018 season.  I send a massive thank you to Jon Watson and the green keepers for keeping an excellent course all the year round and especially on my Captain’s Day. Thank you Lynn and all the kitchen staff for all the time and meals you have served. And generally thanks to everyone at Parklands, staff and members.

I have been very proud to be Captain of this club for 2017. (It’s a good way to get your name on the board haha).

Good luck to everyone this year and enjoy your golf. Cheers.
