The season is about complete for our Parklands juniors and it’s been another great season.
When we last posted a report, we had 2 games left, Bedlington at home on 16th June which we won 9-3 and then our last game which was a tricky tie at Westerhope which we lost 8-4, but that result was OK as it took us on 41 points and we finished the season in second place in the league.
The junior fundraising day at Parklands on the 12th July raised just over 900 pounds which was brilliant. Bryan Malone would like to thank a few people including Michelle and Parklands for giving us the tee times, Jon Watson and his team for a brilliant course, Brian and Joan King for all their work on the scorecards, Trisha, Samantha and Sophia for running the raffle and all the members and guests for turning up ….. thank you, everyone.
Our reward for finishing second in the league was a semi-final match against Stocksfield on August 5th. Stocksfield on paper looked a decent side, but like all season, our lads battled really hard and we beat them 8-4 brilliant so that was us through to the final for the 1st time in my junior manager’s time.
We had to face a very strong Northumberland side with their number one, Jess Baker, playing off plus 3. I had to change our team as Harrison had to leave for county duties so that meant young Finn had the task of playing Jess. He put up a great fight against her, but you can’t do much when she starts off with a birdie then an eagle. But going on behind them was a team of battlers and in the end, the final was a 6-6 draw, but because Jess had beaten Finn, Northumberland won the overall league.
I couldn’t be more proud of the lads and especially Ethan Searle, who had been on holiday in Scotland but got himself on the road at 4 am so he could play for the team.
