A quick update from the weekend. On Saturday our ladies team played the next round of the Mail on Sunday National Golf Club Classic with a home tie against Chester le Street ladies. The competition was close, but Parklands ladies triumphed with a 3.5 to 1.5 win and march on to the next round. Well done ladies and to all the men on the course who let the team play through. Nice to see the sportsmanship and courtesy.
Saturday was also the day the junior team started the 2013 season with a Texas Scramble event at Newbiggin Golf Club. With each of the clubs in the Northumberland Junior Golf League represented by a team of 4, out team of Ryan Cruse, Ryan Miller, Samantha Malone and Niamh Lendrum performed with a great team spirit and returned a net 62 to finish a creditable 5th place. Well done to you all.
Sunday was a reasonably nice day and the first of the Men’s competitions of the season. We had 16 normal greens open and we had some good scores returned. However, the exceptional score of the day came from the 17 year old junior, Ollie Hogg who carded a magnificent 72 – 12 = 60. A great achievement and our congratulations Ollie. I did notice there were four disqualifications due to players forgetting to sign their cards? Its not a cheque guys, just sign the card!
Monday was back to the freezing cold winds and the odd snow shower … and the green keepers and the racecourse staff are busy hollow tining the greens. The team were all working very hard out there and we look forward to the results of their endeavours.
