I am sure we are all aware of the oversize holes on the 8th (and yesterday on the 9th) which the greenstaff are putting on the winter greens. There have been a number of questions raised regarding what happens when a ball ricochets in the increased diameter hole and then bounces out. The answer is that the ball is not 'holed' and the player must continue to play the ball as it lies. A ball is 'holed' when it is at rest within the circumference of the hole and all of it is below the level of the lip of the hole. The key word is rest. A ball at rest cannot then bounce out of the hole.
