Today was Finals Day for the Men’s Club Championship and the Seniors Handicap Trophy at Parklands and the warm dry weather ensured that the golf was of the highest quality with all the finalists putting in very strong performances. The Men’s Club Championship is matchplay played over 36 holes. The final brought together Chris Bowman and David Gibson and there was little time to warm up, with the pair on the tee for a 07.30am start. In the early morning session, Chris carved out a lead and he was 4 up after 18 holes. In the second round, Chris extended his lead to win on the 29th hole. It was a great competition, played with superb sporting attitude; well done to both players The Captain, Terry Cooper, refereed the match and presented the Championship trophy to Chris after the match.
The Seniors Handicap Trophy final was matchplay over 18 holes with the full handicap difference applying. The finalists were Alan Wardle and Garry Blackett and with a handicap difference of only 3 shots, they might as well have been playing off scratch. They teed off at 07.40 and Alan pulled away to go 4 up, Garry pulled it back to 2 before Alan won the trophy 4/2. Well done to both of you for a well-contested competition. The Vice-Captain, Graham Brown, refereed the match and Captain Terry presented the trophy to Alan after the match.
