This weekend saw both the Men’s and the Ladies teams compete in the early rounds of the Mail on Sunday competitions. The Mail on Sunday competition is a national team knockout competition played throughout the season, initially on a regional basis. The teams consist of 5 players each playing matchplay against an opponent with the full difference in handicap being applied.
The Men’s team had an away fixture against Bedlingtonshire and this was played on Saturday. The Bedlington team used the full handicap difference to their advantage, fielding players with handicaps of 18, 17 and 14 and Chris Bowman was giving his opponent 16 shots! The result was that we suffered a 4-1 defeat. The only winner was Geordie Stott whose opponent was off scratch, well done Geordie and well done the team to put up such a spirited performance.
The Ladies team played on Sunday and they also had an away venue at Houghton le Spring. The ladies team consisted of, in order of play, Candy Brown, Niamh Lendrum, Denise Swidlehurst, Maureen Jenkins (Capt) and Sarah Howson. The match results were close with two matches halved, but Parklands came out 3-2 winners and now move on to the next round. Well done Ladies.
