The Lady Chairman, Candy Brown, welcomed the lady members to a dry and partially sunny Parklands on Saturday, 26th August. The event was well attended and the weather ensured that there were no excuses for the scores. A halfway house brought drinks and snacks served from the back of Sarah Howson’s van and a few ladies blamed the gin and tonic for their declining performance on the back nine! The golf was followed by afternoon tea at the 19th with sandwiches and cakes to finish. This photo shows the winner of the Chairman’s Trophy, Chris Nicholson, collecting her trophy and prize voucher. Candy sends her sincere thanks to all the members and friends who brought her cards and generous presents for her second Chairman’s Day. Both the Parklands Inter and Rabbits teams won their home event in the last few weeks, but the results since then have been disappointing, and both teams are now out of the running for a place at the NERGA Club Champions event in September.
But the race to be top player and represent Parklands at the Individual Championship is very tight.
Stu Parker is currently in top spot for the Inter team, with another 5 players within catching distance, it will be a tight finish at the last event of the season at Stocksfield.
Keeping it in the family, its Billy Parker who is leading the race to be Rabbits top player, but with 2 events to go a number of players can catch and overtake Billy if they return a good score.

It was the Past Captains Annual Match and Dinner at Parklands yesterday and the event was well attended by both current and former members. The match was 13 holes of matchplay between the Men’s and Lady Past Captains and the winning team (the Ladies of course) are shown happy after a super meal and the odd libation.
Our Men’s Chairman’s Day is on Sunday, 27th August 2017. The format will be a 3 man Texas Scramble competition similar to previous years. The entry sheet for this event will be put out this Sunday morning at the start of the Clark Trophy. The formation of teams and the allocation of start times will be at the discretion of the Chairman.
The players representing Parklands were a mix of youth and experience, and each and every player played their part in securing the win. Top scorer, with an excellent 42 points was Captain Tommy Watson, while Peter Nelson scored 37 before switching to managing the scorecards and results board. A successful day, both on and off the course, and a big thanks to all that contributed.
The Rabbits team are back in action on Sunday 13th August, at Stocksfield, and the following Sunday (20/8/17) is the big one – the annual challenge match between the Parklands Inter and Parklands Rabbits Teams, where the Rabbits will be looking for revenge after losing out in a very close match to the Inter team last year.
Our congratulations go to Peter Nelson who won the Forster Cup today at Tynemouth GC. The Forster Cup is a Northumberland County event for players with a handicap ranging from 13 to 20. Peter who played off 19 at the start of the day returned a superb 42 stableford points. He did point out that he has yet to win a competition at Parklands, but a win at County level is a pretty good starting point. Well done Peter and the other prize winners Messrs Naylor and Keen both from Parklands who both shot 40 points apiece. The first 8 places in the competition were taken by Parklands members …. don’t you just love it!!!
The start sheet for this competition has been updated see Mens Section/Start Sheet Tab
A few more match results from the Men’s Team in the Hadrian League.
Wednesday, 5th July away to Newbiggin where we lost 11-1. I think we’ll just leave Newbiggin by the Sea, by the sea and call it a one off. I just hope the team enjoyed their trip to the seaside!
Monday, 10th July at home so Slaley Hall and a 7-5 win. Firstly a big welcome to Wayne McCulloch to the team. He has played some good golf this season and deserves his place on the team. He played No6 on the team and came away with a point, which was the winning point in our 7-5 win. He was over the moon – well-done mate!! Chris Bowman, Gavin Jobe and Ryan Clark were on top form with 2 points each. A great win against a team that has been playing really well.
Wednesday, 19th July away to Newcastle United and a 12-0 loss. Oh Well when you come up against the best team in the league and they have only dropped 2 points all season at home, what can you do? Just go out and enjoy the game! The lads did just that and they all gave 100%.
Wednesday, 26th July at home to Bellingham. What do you do when you have just been beaten 12-0 … you go out and win 12-0!!! Yes 12-0!!! How about that lads, all I can say is fantastic! I skipped up the road to my car after I left the club and I would like to say a big thank you to all the team for making an old man happy. Me and the lads would also like to say big congratulations to Ryan and his wife on the arrival of their baby boy. (You weren’t missed) !!!!
