Our belated congratulations go to Geordie Faulder who achieved the feat, that as golfers, we all aspire to – a Hole in One. He holed out on the 8th at Parklands during the second round of the Club Championship on Sunday, 18th June …. Well done Geordie.
Parklands will be hosting the Durnell Trophy on Thursday 13th July 2017 which is a Ladies County Competition. As a result, there will be fewer tees available for members to play golf on that day. In recompense, many clubs within the area offer our members the opportunity to play at their course on that date at no cost. A list of the courtesies offered is shown below. This list will be placed on the notice board in the front foyer later today. If you wish to play please enter your names, on a first come, first served basis. We need to give at least 10 days notice to the Clubs involved, so the closing date for entries is Monday, 3rd July. Obviously, all players must be members of Parklands Golf Club. Act quickly and enjoy.

Saturday 24th June at Parklands and with the sun shining, and a pretty strong wind blowing, the Lady Captain, Chris Nicholson welcomed her members and guests for 18 holes of golf followed by afternoon tea.
An eventful preparation saw the gazebo destroyed by the wind and the refreshments at the 9th were then served from the back of Sarah Howson van.
…. and the winners were….. Indrid Taylor won Captain’s Day and Maureen Jenkins won the Past Captain’s Trophy.

The mid-week Summer League Round 1 competition cancelled as a result of inclement weather on Wednesday will now be played this Saturday the 24th June. The second round will be played as planned next Thursday the 29th June.
To enter either you must book your own tee, upon arrival at the club report to the shop then enter your name on the start sheet available in the club room, place your entry fee in an envelope with your name on and post it through the committee office door before starting. Sign in on the computer and enter your score upon completion of your round, post the score card as usual. Failure to return your score card will result in disqualification. Please try to play in four balls to maximize tee use.
Please be aware it is LADY CAPTAINS DAY, they have priority on the course.
Volunteers please step forward and join the Men’s Committee.
The Parklands’ Men’s Committee is composed of members of the section who have volunteered to run the activities of the men’s section within the agreed structure of the Club. On occasions, they receive thanks from our members, but more often they receive just grumbles and criticism as the few attempt to serve the many.
We, as members, expect to have our handicaps managed and published; have the competitions run (55+ per annum) with fixed tee times; a published draw; score cards prepared; a starter; computer systems for score input; cards checked and results published; sweep money prepared and issued; Captain’s Days, Chairman’s Days, Invitation Days, Knockouts, County competitions, Club Championships, trophies cleaned engraved and presented; teams organised and managed; lockers managed; accounts held and distributed; minutes and records kept; …… and all this by a dozen willing volunteers.
However, the reality is that we as members are currently letting the Men’s Committee down in a big way. They have managed so far this year with a Committee of 10 ie 2 members short. Due to a couple of recent resignations, this number will soon fall to just 8. This puts even more pressure on the remaining Committee members who often have busy lives and jobs which demand their attention.
Can you help? Have you got some organisational or computer skills which could help ease the burden? Please have a think and consider being seconded onto the Committee for the rest of the current year. Volunteer as an individual or volunteer with a friend and learn the ropes together. The experience can be rewarding as we work with the members and learn new aspects of the game of golf which we all love to play.
Please talk with a member of the Men’s Committee – 2 extra members would make all the difference, 4 would be ideal. Step forward and be counted. Remember it’s your golf club, make it a club to be proud of!
We had another home match on Wednesday, 24th May against Ryton in the Hadrian League. We welcomed Rob Bell to the team and Rob went on to celebrate his selection with a great win and 2 points for the team. The rest of the team was Chris Bowman 2pts, Rod Armstrong 2pts, Craig Wayman 1pt and Dave Gibson and Ryan Clark. The overall result was a 7-5 win for Parklands but I know that many of the lads were not happy with the game feeling the score should have been better.
Wednesday, 31st May we hosted Matfen Hall at home. We had a 6-6 result with 2pts for Karl Mossom, Kev Miller and a point apiece for Chris Bowman and Dave Gibson. Rob Bell and Rod Armstrong made up the 6 man team. Once again I would like to welcome Kev Miller to the team with a good win on his first appearance. Matfen have a good team and they have had some good results this season so a draw is not a bad result for us.
As you can see, over the last few games we have had some new faces in the team, the door is always open!
On the 7th June we played an away match at Wallsend. We had wins from Chris Bowman, Dave Gibson, Kev Miller, Gavin Jobe and a point from Ryan Clark with Craig Wayman also in the team. We won the match 9-3 and I had put Gav back in the team this week and he rewarded us with a great 3 and 2 win, so his clubs are doing the talking. I would like to thank Grahame Bell, Rob Bell and Zac for caddying for the lads and the support of Bryan Malone.
I would like to say thanks to Jon and the boys for all their hard work on the course in all this awful weather, the course continues to be in great condition. We have a few members who are not happy with the course, but that’s life. We sometimes need something to blame for our golf! When you see and play on other courses, you realise how good our course and club is!
I would like to thank Grahame Bell and Gav Jobe for all the hard work over the last few years in the Club and on the Committees and all the best with your golf.
