Parklands hosted the penultimate event of the Inter Red Zone on Sunday 3rd July. The 40 visiting golfers from 5 visiting clubs enjoyed their experience at Parklands, both off and on the course and thanks to everybody (especially Andre Watson) that assisted in running a successful event.
The Parklands players used their home course experience to post some good scores, with 7 of the 8 players scoring above 30, top scores on the day were John Raisbeck and Ian McPhillips who both carded a 37 pointer, while Keith Gill returned 36 points.
The winners of a NERGA event is based on the total stableford points from the best 7 players in a team, Parklands and Roseberry Grange were tied on 238 points each. In such cases, the “tie breaker” is to include the lowest players score in the team total. Roseberry Grange 8th player scored 26 points while the 8th Parklands player scored 25 points. Thus Roseberry Grange won the event by the smallest margin possible and Parklands had to settle for second place.
This result moves Parklands up to 3rd in the League, but with only one event remaining, it is unlikely that the team will qualify for Finals Day at Rockliffe Hall in October.
But the race to be the top Parklands player to represent Parklands at the Individual championship at Rockliffe is very tight. Ian Mcphillips is the current leader with an average score of 35.67 over his best 3 events, but Keith Gill (34.33), Dicky Rutherford (32.0), Iwan Owen (32.0), John Raisbeck 31.67 and Andy Bolton(30) all have a chance of overtaking Ian, its all to play for at the last event at Stocksfield on 14th August.
