The Parklands Junior team played their first match of the season at home to Close House in the Turnberry section of the Northumbria Junior Golf League. The teams consist of six players, playing match play; the first two matches playing from scratch and the last four playing from handicap. There were a number of Close House team members who were ex Parklands members which reduced some of the home advantage. However, the Parklands members had a super performance winning the match 9-3.
Three of our players won their matches on the 15th hole, Ben Jones, Thomas Middleton and Finn Bell, but the best of the day was young Harrison Sewell who beat Matthew Brown 7-6.
It was a great team effort so thanks to all the players and their parents for the support.
Also whilst we focus on our junior members, congratulations go to Kane Mason who won the Men’s Sunday Competition – the Arthur Fowler Trophy. On a morning when the course was still recovering from the recent wet weather and during which we received a sustained downpour, Kane carded a great 40 points winning the trophy on countback. Well done.
