The Captain’s Blog (No3) – Tess Mann

Our first game of the season in the Hadrian League was at Tyneside GC on Wednesday, 3rd May. The team was Karl Mossom, Craig Wayman, Chris Bowman, Dave Gibson, Gavin Jobe, Ryan Clark with Rod Armstrong as reserve. The team all looked very smart in their new Parklands tops and the Captain was not badly turned out either! Mr. Mossom and got us off to a great start with a win on the 15th  hole. Craig was up and down as he battled on but lost 3-2. Chris was four down after 10 and he battled on, but lost 3-2. More games not more holidays mate – he will be back soon. Ryan battled throughout, but lost on last hole. Davy played some fantastic golf and got a great 2 points for us. Gav got a fantastic point which could easily have been 2 with his match finishing on the last hole. The spirit of my team was great gaining five points in Tyneside is brilliant thanks again to everyone for their support.

Our second game was at home against Stocksfield on Wednesday, 10th May. Our team was Chris Bowman, Craig Wayman, Dave Gibson, Gavin Jobe, Ryan Clark, Rod Armstrong with Rob Bell, Lee Thompson and Wayne McCulloch as supporters/reserves. Thanks for coming along lads. We lost the overall match 7 games to 5.  Chris Bowman got the first two points for us and Craig playing the luckiest golf got 1 point. Davy Gibson was three down and won it on the last – well done what a battler. Once again team spirit was brilliant; I know it’s still early in the season and lads are still settling down, but there will be chances for others to play for the team. Our next game is away to Close House on Wednesday, 17th May.

A quick mention about Karl Mossom, who played in the County event The North and South Trophy, a 36 hole scratch medal competition played at Newbiggin GC on Saturday 6th May. Karl scored 72 and 76 and finished eighth – well done mate, hopefully the County should come knocking soon!

it’s great to see the old man of the club winning in the Men’s Sunday morning competitions. Mr. Pringle scored a superb net 64 on Sunday 7th May in the Junior Patrons competition. well done Davy and I look forward to seeing you on Presentation Night later in the year.
